Insect Lore Review

Insect Lore has been a part of our homeschooling curriculum since 2005. The company has been around since 1969, and was started by entomologist, Dr. Carlos White. His dream was to “create a kit through which people of all ages could witness the metamorphosis of a real, live butterfly”. He accomplished that, and now, years later, Insect Lore offers a wide variety of live insect kits. It’s not only a great resource for homeschooling families, but also for any mom who wants to encourage a love of nature in her children. These easy to use live insect kits come in a variety of different insects, and creepy crawlies. The all included kits allow you the privilege of watching the complete metamorphosis of a butterfly, ladybug, tadpole, praying mantis, silk worm, and more! Not only do they offer the live insect kits, but a menagerie of insect themed toys and educational resources. These products are an easy addition to any science curriculum, or be creative and create your own unit study!

Our Insect Lore journey started with Ladybug Land. Caitlyn was four at the time and we were doing a K4 curriculum. Caitlyn learned so much about the ladybug life cycle, and it started a love of nature in her that is still going strong today. After the ladybugs had developed into adults and it was time to release them, we were all sad to see them go. But for weeks afterwards, every time she saw a ladybug in our backyard, she was convinced it was one of hers….and maybe it was!

Since then we’ve purchased several items from Insect Lore, including a Butterfly Garden, and the Mini Anthill. The next item on our Insect Lore wish list? Frog Bog!

One of my first concerns with these kits was whether we would be successful or just end up with some dead bugs. We’ve had great success every time, and the quality of insects that you receive are top notch. Their prices are affordable as well, and a big part of the reason that we have been a repeat customer. I have to say though, that the wonder and amazement on your children’s faces when they see their very own Painted Lady Butterfly, that they raised, is priceless!

Buy it: You can purchase a variety of Nature Projects at http://insectlore.com.

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to our winner!

Hi,

I'm a major fan of Insectlore! We are currently watching our Painted Ladies become butterflies. Right now we have nice fat caterpillars. Our next wish list item is the Frog Bog as well!! Great site review. Teena

Okay, seriously...I think we want everything! My son loves the garden spider frame. He also wants the Frog Bog, the Little Bug Locket, and the Worm Vue Wonders.

I would love to have a giant curriculum package of everything!

And wouldn't it be cool to have a chick incubator?

The bug bling necklaces would make awesome birthday party favors, too!

Ladybug Land or the Frog Bog would be our favorites. We did the Butterfly Garden last year and loved it (except that our hot mailbox baked our first batch of caterpilars!)
